The short version

  • We only get your email if you join the waitlist, and we only email you about the launch. Every email tells you how to unsubscribe. No spam, no selling, no ads.
  • You need to be 13 or older to join.
  • We count anonymous visits and clicks (like “played a video”) to learn which videos bring people here.
  • No cookies by default.
  • Want your data deleted? Email getwhatifery@gmail.com.

What we collect

If you join the waitlist

  • Your email address, when you joined, and which version of the sign-up wording you saw (our record of what you agreed to).
  • Where on the page you signed up, and how you found us: the campaign tags in the link you followed, the site that referred you and which video link you used.
  • Your browser’s user-agent string (the browser and device type).

When you use Whatifery

  • Anonymous usage events: pages viewed, videos played and the waitlist form viewed or submitted, with the page, the device type and how you arrived.
  • These events are not tied to your name or email. If you join the waitlist, we link your events to a one-way hash of your email (a scrambled code, not the email itself) so we can see which videos the people who joined watched.
  • Our analytics provider is set to discard IP addresses, and we don’t record your screen.

Where it is stored

  • Google stores the waitlist in Whatifery’s private Google account. Only the Whatifery team and Whatifery’s server can read or write it. Google may process it outside the UK, under the UK’s data-transfer safeguards.
  • PostHog Cloud EU holds the anonymous usage events. Your email never goes there.
  • Vercel hosts the site and counts anonymous page views and page speed, without cookies. Your email never goes there.
  • We don’t sell or share your data with anyone else, and we don’t use it for advertising.

Why we use it

  • To email you about the launch. You give us your email for that, and you can withdraw at any time from any email or by writing to us (legal basis: consent).
  • To understand demand before launch: which videos bring people and how many join (legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the product, using the minimum data needed).

Cookies and browser storage

Whatifery doesn’t set cookies by default. Analytics run in memory only. We use your browser’s own storage for a few small things:

  • For this tab only (session storage, cleared when you close the tab): how you arrived.
  • On this device (local storage): a note that you’ve joined, so we stop asking; and, only if you turn analytics off below, a note to remember that.

Turn off analytics in this browser

How long we keep it

  • The waitlist: until Whatifery launches and for up to 12 months after that, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.
  • Usage events: up to 12 months.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop us using it. Email getwhatifery@gmail.com from the address you signed up with and we’ll act on it within 30 days. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
